Ashlan Forster, a ninth-grader at El Capitan High in California, won the Division 2 girls freshman race at the 42nd ASICS Mt. Carmel Cross Country Invitational at Balboa Park's Morley Field in San Diego. Forster covered the 3-mile course in 20:39.2, taking the lead after early leader Isla Duncan of Francis Parker took a wrong turn late in the race, before finishing second in 20:48.9.
